Dogs and Pools

Last night, just as a storm was starting, we picked up a cattle dog roaming the streets. As animal lovers we just couldn't leave him out in the storm. Bought him home and put him in the shed. We got through the storm without a peep from him. Then 11pm came - yap, whine, scratch, whine, yap.

We ended up bringing the dog in to the house and having him in our bedroom. Very little sleep - pacing, whine, yap, sleep a bit, pacing, whine, yap. A nightmare.

Emails were sent around locals to find the owner but nothing so we had to take him to vets who scanned his chip and hopefully contacted his owner.

Now to the pool. As the cover was on the dog kept falling in. Hub removed the cover so that he could see the water. This was very early in the morning and the colour was not seen until daylight.Nice eh?

Looks like we have a few days of dumping chlorine in to it and cleaning. Geeeez!

Reports filtering in that it is snowing at Bathurst and has been for a while, Bullaburra in the Blue Mountains and now Bilpin in the Hawkesbury.

Weird for Spring.

Tomorrow Is The Last Day Of Winter

My First Play With The New Camera

Well we thought it was about time to invest in a new camera. Unsure of what to buy we headed to Harvey Normans to check out what they had in store.

We actually decided on a Sony Cyber-shot DCS-HX5 and checked out the prices around a few other electrical stores. Well it turned out that it was cheaper for us to get one direct from Hong Kong. After ordering and paying the camera arrived and we found that they had delivered the incorrect camera. We had actually received the Sony Cyber-shot DCS-HX1

After reading reviews and checking out the features we decided we wanted to keep it. Luckily for us the company we purchased it from agreed for us to keep it at not extra cost. It would probably have not been worth it if they picked it up and sent us the other model, considering it was from Hong Kong. Here's a couple of shots that I just took in EASY mode, no fancy set ups for this setting. I love it and can't wait to try out some of the other settings on it.We are taking the dogs off to the park tomorrow and I can't wait to play with the camera again.

Out Off-Roading

Well we had fun today. Decided to go out driving in Wollemi National Park. Didn't know where we would end up but had a lovely drive around.
This first shot is of our stop at Wheeny Creek. Looks like we have found a new spot to sun bathe in the Summer.
A view from the road down to Colo Valley. Beautiful. You wouldn't believe there was a chill in the wind today.
Two old trucks in a field. Thought they would make a great photo.
Now this was the shocker. I kept telling my husband that one of my friends saw a camel. There it was in a field with cows, horses and a donkey.

A Few Things From The Sydney Quilt & Craft Show

Sunday was a trip to the Sydney Quilt and Craft Show. I was fairly good with the spending - sort of. Had a great day meeting up with a couple of peeps from the Etsy Dust Team.
As I say I was pretty good with my spending but have just noticed how girly and pink my I must have felt that day.

Take a look at a couple of creations I made this week with the beads I purchased.
Funny how a purchase can reflect the mood you are in.

It's Been A While

It's been a little longer than expected since my last post but having my daughter here for a few weeks has been the best.

Worst part of it is that the 2 weeks she was here just flew by and now she is back in the UK.Whilst she was here we just had to visit Taronga Zoo in Sydney. Over the last few months there have been quite a few births so I was really looking forward to going there.

My favourite just had to be the baby elephant which at first, by specialists, was announced dead inside it's Mum but shocked the community by being alive and well when born.
What a beautiful day we had. All the family was together.
We even got a chance to feed the giraffes.

A Walk With The Dog

When you are rushing home from work in the car you just don't appreciate where you live. Just a stroll down our road with the dog really was appreciating. I am so glad I took the camera.

The first 2 pictures are both ends of our road.
You will see the gorgeous green fields to the side and the lovely lane leading to the Woods Reserve.

Uluru To Darwin With Dad

I have been promising friends that I will update them on our travels from our time away in November. Not just for their curiosity but part of a geography lesson for the kids.

Firstly we had to catch a flight from Sydney to Alice Springs, then from Alice Springs to Uluru for our first stay in Ayers Rock Resort. The resort was the most expensive stay. For a 2 bedroomed apartment, which I must add was excellent, 2 nights was $1,700. On arriving the service was very poor. We had many steps to climb in 40+ heat and considering I had not long had a neck operation and my Dad is 70 I would have thought someone would have helped us.This was a Christmas present for Dad including a sunset meal between Ayers Rock and The Olgas in the middle of the desert.

Not only was this a beautiful meal but we had a didgeridoo player and we were provided with equipment for star gazing. The sky was so clear and the star formations unbelievable.
Many more posts are to come of our journeys but I just give you our first day as a taster.

Another Sky Report

Absolutely awesome. After almost a day of rain we have a night sky of colour.
You can hardly see the mountains due to the low clouds.

Off We Go!

Well this will be the last post for a few weeks. In a few days we will be off on our holidays.

My Dad arrives from the UK tomorrow and then we all set off for Alice Springs. First stop Ayers Rock then we have 2 weeks to drive up to Darwin for our flight home.

Only 2 days have been booked at Ayers Rock then drive, drive, drive and hope we can find places to stay in.

Should be fun.

My Cervical Spine Operation

For a few weeks I was a bit quiet on the blogging front. Think nerves took over before my operation.

Well for almost 5 months now I was suffering with severe pain in my arm. Many weeks were spent to and fro from my GP with x-rays and scans on my arm with nothing found. As a last resort the doctor, who had 'tennis elbow' on the brain referred me to a physiotherapist.

My visit to the physiotherapist was short. She got me to move around in different positions and just said "I want you to have a CT Scan on your neck before I can do anything".

After the CT Scan my problem was found. I had 2 bulging discs, C5/6 & C6/7, which were also trapping nerves. My arm pain was then diagnosed as 'referred' pain. Not once did O have pain in my neck. Pain was by now in my left shoulder blade and chest area with electrifying pins and needles.

The physiotherapist popped me on to a neck traction machine for about 6 sessions, it didn't help. A referral to a brain and spine specialist was then made. Firstly the specialist wanted me have an MRI and then to try cortisone in to the discs. I must say this was not nice and I had to have Valium to calm my nerves. This didn't work.

Second option was the 'surgery of the cervical spine'. I had this operation on 21st October 2009 and on waking the next morning the horrendous pain in my arm and pins and needles had gone. just ached in the neck area from the operation. After 2 days I was released, after they removed the few staples in my head and the drain from my operation area.

To put it bluntly the surgeon shaved bone from the 2 discs to make a hole for the trapped nerve to escape in to.

It is now 30th October 2009 with tingling in my fingers and still aches in my neck and shoulder area. I am hoping this will go away but only time will tell. I didn't need any stitches to be removed as they were dissolvable and as you can see the scaring is minimal. Quite neat eh?

New Beginnings

I have waited many days to capture these cuties. My son said that he had seen the little ones and they had cute white faces. Every time I went out there they must have been over the other side of the field.
And yayyyy today I captured them. Cute little calves with Mom.

Now I just need to walk up the road and get some more pics of the gorgeous foals that have recently been born.

New Visitor

Well he/she's beautiful, noisy and disruptive! These cockatoo are beautiful and close up I couldn't believe how big they are.
Problem is we cannot feed them and encourage them to visit, like we do the King Parrots, as they are so destructive with homes.
