Uluru To Darwin With Dad

I have been promising friends that I will update them on our travels from our time away in November. Not just for their curiosity but part of a geography lesson for the kids.

Firstly we had to catch a flight from Sydney to Alice Springs, then from Alice Springs to Uluru for our first stay in Ayers Rock Resort. The resort was the most expensive stay. For a 2 bedroomed apartment, which I must add was excellent, 2 nights was $1,700. On arriving the service was very poor. We had many steps to climb in 40+ heat and considering I had not long had a neck operation and my Dad is 70 I would have thought someone would have helped us.This was a Christmas present for Dad including a sunset meal between Ayers Rock and The Olgas in the middle of the desert.

Not only was this a beautiful meal but we had a didgeridoo player and we were provided with equipment for star gazing. The sky was so clear and the star formations unbelievable.
Many more posts are to come of our journeys but I just give you our first day as a taster.

That sounds amazing. What a wonderful Christmas present for your Dad! Our daughter went to AUS in June 2003 with a group from her Middle School and it was truly the trip of a lifetime. She loved Uluru and The Olgas but she said Sydney was her favorite place of all.

oh wow! Lovely photos!! Sounds like you had a nice time despite the service being a bit less than perfect. I was interested to hear they provided you with stargazing equipment I have always wanted to go to one of the astronomy resorts in Arizona here in the US (similar dry air, very clear skies)
