As some of you know I joined the RFS (rural fire service) to be able to learn how to protect the area I live in and my home. On Sunday I completed my Basic Assessment which means I am now able to help provide assistance with fires like property protection, grass fires, bush fires, etc.
The training was vigorous with practical and theory but "little me" and Byron made it through with a lot of help from our trainers Lindsay and Karen Gorrie, not forgetting the assistance from fellow firefighters and our bald captain (that is another story which i will try and post another day).
The day itself was absolutely gorgeous but blooming hot in our PPE (personal protective equipment). Plenty of food and drink was supplied. Oh yeah we had yummy melting ice cream but don't you just love to stir it around until it is a blob, then eat it.As you can see at the end of the day we were full of smiles, physically shattered but mentally charged.

Congrats! You look so cool in your PPEs!
Congrats on that!I used to be a firefighter when I was a teen...Good memories!...I still get butterflies in my stomach when I hear a fire engine going on an assignment!...
Take care.
Oh, well done you Mandy! Hats off to another quiet hero :-)

That's awesome! Congratulations and job well done!
Wow, a firefighter in training? Good for you! What a way to help protect your community.
Way to go. Very cool!

Congrats on a job well done! The clothes looks heavy...I can just imagine how hot it is inside that.
YGG! It's a rough job and I'm personally grateful there are folks like you willing to go out and help. My parents farm burnt down and it took 4 days to burn. It was so far out that the fire trucks simply couldn't keep the flow of water going to save it.
The firefighters were very supportive of my mom as she sat there and watched her life go up in flames - a sad time indeed.
wow, congrats! it looks exhausting but looks like fun too! :) job well done.
You go girl!
Thanks for stopping by Mandy
It was a gorgeous old farmhouse. They had replaced all the wiring in it with the exception of one wall because there just wasn't time to finish before Christmas. Unfortunately ~ that wall couldn't take the load put on it from the decorations and it took down the old place. :(
Wow! Way to go! That's really impressive :) My dad was a volunteer firefighter for 35 years!
